Printing Improvements for UK Magistrate Courts
IDS have announced a solution to bring the printing operation of UK Magistrate Courts into the 21st Century, without any changes being made to their existing host, VME, data and working practices.
Many UK Magistrate Courts operate VME mainframes and use OSLAN connected band printers such as the LW400, LW800, FP1500 and FP2000 to carry out their printing. Despite these printers being the main (and sometimes only) output source for VME, they are no longer supported by their original manufacturer, Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL). Furthermore, finding consumables and spares for these printers is becoming increasingly difficult, making their continued use even more uncertain.
For this reason, IDS offer a proven and cost effective range of solutions to allow normally incompatible printers to be connected to any VME mainframe without any changes being made to hardware, software and operating procedures.
Each solution consists of an impact and/or laser printer, together with an OsNet LP Interface consisting of a small PC chassis (about the size of a shoe box) and all the hardware and software necessary to provide the connectivity between a VME mainframe and non-OSLAN connected printer.

Rob Webb, Senior Consultant for IDS, comments: “Unfortunately, the days of the traditional OSLAN connected band printer are numbered, and as a result, the print operations of many businesses and organisations are beginning to suffer. Our OsNet solution allows UK Magistrate Courts, or anyone who uses VME, to bring their print operation into the 21st Century, with minimum financial outlay and disruption.”
Each solution includes a comprehensive support and maintenance package, and prices start from just £8,500, which includes installation. Other solutions such as scanning, archiving, output management and document composition can also be seamlessly integrated to give the user a flexible and efficient document production environment.
